Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has stirred reactions online after sharing a video of himself exchanging pleasantries with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Omokri, known for his strong support for President Bola Tinubu and frequent criticism of Obi on social media, posted the 35-second clip on his X account on Sunday.
In the video, Obi was seen standing close to a seating area alongside some companions and pieces of luggage when Omokri approached him. The former presidential aide could be heard calling out, “Mr. Obi!” before both men exchanged a handshake.
Omokri, who appeared in a green traditional outfit and matching cap, briefly held Obi’s arm while they exchanged a few words during the short encounter.
Moments later, Obi turned and proceeded toward the airport’s departure section with his luggage as the video came to an end.
Sharing the clip online, Omokri wrote:
“Peter Obi And I Exchanging Warm Greetings Today At Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport In Anticipation of President Tinubu’s Reelection Next Year!”
The video quickly triggered mixed reactions across social media platforms, with many users highlighting the contrast between Omokri’s often harsh online criticism of Obi and the friendly atmosphere captured in the footage.
Others accused Omokri of seeking attention and attempting to generate online engagement, especially due to the visible presence of a cameraman recording the interaction.
The encounter has continued to fuel debate online, with supporters of both political figures offering differing interpretations of the brief airport meeting.
