Hundreds of students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, have staged a peaceful protest following an alleged overnight attack on a female hostel located outside the institution’s main premises.
The incident reportedly left several students traumatised, while one female student was allegedly raped and seriously injured during the attack.
According to reports, the attackers, described as hoodlums, invaded the hostel in the early hours of Friday, September 11, 2026, allegedly dispossessing students of their mobile phones, money and other valuables.
The assailants reportedly subjected some of the occupants to violence before allegedly attacking the female student.
She was said to have sustained injuries during the incident, with reports alleging that one of her fingers was cut off by the attackers.
The development reportedly sparked anger among students of the institution, who subsequently took to the streets to protest the security situation around the hostel and demand urgent action from the relevant authorities.
The protesting students are said to be calling for improved security measures around off-campus accommodation used by students, particularly female students.
The incident has also renewed concerns about the safety of students residing outside the college premises, where they may have limited access to institutional security personnel.
Details surrounding the identities of the attackers, the condition of the injured student and whether any suspects have been arrested were not immediately available.
