A Kenyan woman, Chia Joan, has responded to allegations by her estranged boyfriend, Kiptoo, who accused her of ending their relationship after he allegedly financed her relocation to the United Kingdom.
Kiptoo had taken to Facebook to express his disappointment, claiming that he sold his ancestral land to sponsor Joan’s move abroad. However, Joan has denied the allegation, describing the claim that he sold his land to fund her studies overseas as a “big lie.”
She addressed the controversy in a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, October 15, offering her version of events and disputing several claims circulating on social media.
Joan clarified that she and Kiptoo were not married, contrary to some reports, and disclosed that they began dating on February 2, 2026.
According to her, the relationship was troubled by frequent disagreements. She alleged that Kiptoo sometimes sent her view-once photographs showing himself in bed with other women.
She further claimed that whenever they had disagreements, he would post pictures of his child and baby mama alongside affectionate captions.
Joan said the alleged behaviour hurt her but claimed she remained in the relationship because she faced threats whenever she attempted to leave.
Recounting how their relationship ended, she said they had a disagreement on September 21 and were unable to resolve it.
According to Joan, Kiptoo’s parents subsequently asked him whether he intended to continue the relationship, and he reportedly answered in the negative. She said she then packed her clothes and left his house.
Joan stated that she received her UK visa later that same night, despite the couple having blocked each other on social media.
She explained that she informed Kiptoo’s parents about the development because they had supported her. She added that she later communicated with Kiptoo after he reached out to her.
The woman also denied that her estranged boyfriend paid for her flight ticket to the UK. She claimed that his parents had given her KSh 50,000 to supplement the money she needed for her visa fees.
Joan further alleged that Kiptoo asked her to refund KSh 1,500 he had given her family during her farewell, adding that she repaid the money.
She also claimed that she contributed towards Kiptoo’s transportation to the airport, insisting that she had been supportive throughout their relationship.
Joan appealed to Kenyans to hear her side of the story before passing judgment, as the dispute continues to attract attention on social media.
The allegations made by both parties have not been independently verified.
