You Are Expected to Hire at Least 100 Locals for This Job," Wike Instructs Contractor

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a directive to the contractor handling a road project in the Kwali Area Council, insisting that at least 100 local workers be employed for the job.

Wike made the announcement during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 15-kilometer road from the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway (A2) to Pai, situated in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT. In his remarks, the minister emphasized the critical role that these contracts should play in fostering local employment and economic growth.

The road project, awarded to the Zeberced Group, is expected to be completed within the next six months. Wike highlighted that one of the core objectives of the project is to create job opportunities for local residents, thus benefiting families in the area by providing them with a source of income.

“I would like to advise the company to please employ our people, give them jobs, give them contracts so they can support their families,” Wike stated. “The whole essence of this job we are doing is also to create employment.”

Wike’s directive is part of a broader initiative to ensure that infrastructure development projects within the FCT not only improve the region’s infrastructure but also provide tangible benefits to the local population. By mandating the employment of local workers, the minister aims to help alleviate unemployment and support the economic well-being of communities in the Kwali Area Council.
