The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the just concluded election, Peter Obi, has applauded the party for reducing the price of its governorship nomination form.
Gists9ja earlier reported that LP said the nomination forms for the off-cycle governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states are now N15 million instead of N25 million.
The spokesperson for the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Kenneth Okonkwo who confirmed it in a series of tweets on Tuesday said the cost has been reviewed from N25 million to N15 million.
He wrote: “After due consultation with all the relevant stakeholders in the Party, and taking into consideration the overwhelming interest of Nigerians in our Party, and the necessity to birth a new Nigeria, and in view of the prevailing high cost of things in Nigeria, in line with our avowed disposition to carry Nigerians along in what we do, the Party has decided to review the cost of nomination forms downwards for all positions taking into consideration the suggested amount of N15m for the post of Governor.
This comes after Peter Obi had advised that the price which was similar to what is obtainable in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) be reduced.
In a post via Twitter, the former governor of Anambra State thanked the leadership of the party for heeding to his plea and reviewing the nomination fee for the governorship form.
He tweeted: I thank the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, and the NWC for heeding to my appeal, and reviewing the nomination fee for the governorship form downwards to N15m.
