Abia State Government has cancelled the Preliminary Test Sessions (PTS) examination recently conducted for admission seekers into the state’s nursing training institutions.
The state’s Information and Strategy Commissioner, Okey Kanu, who announced the cancellation of the examination, explained that it was due to allegations levelled against some individuals involved in the conduct of the examination that led to protest by some affected candidates.
Kanu disclosed the government’s decision yesterday while briefing journalists after the weekly State Executive Council meeting.
He said: “It was in order to show transparency in all its activities that the state government, as a responsible one, ordered the cancellation of the result of the last nursing examination, and set up a committee whose preliminary report was that the examination be cancelled while investigations continue.”
Commenting on the development, Mr Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu, who is the Principal Secretary and Chief Strategist to the state Governor, Alex Otti, said the committee recommended the cancellation, after meeting with all stakeholders, including students, who filed petitions against the conduct of the examination and the leaderships of nursing institutions.
