Tensions Rise as Kano Resident Slaps Imam During Morning Prayers

Nasiru Mukhtar, a Kano State resident, has been placed in remand by the State Shariah Court at Kofar Kudu after allegedly assaulting Imam Malam Murtala Sulaiman during early morning prayers at a mosque in Tudunwada.

The incident took place on October 22, 2024, around 5 a.m., when Mukhtar reportedly entered the mosque, grabbed the Imam by the neck, slapped him several times, tore his clothes, and seized his microphone.

After the incident, the Imam filed a complaint with the state police, leading to Mukhtar’s arrest.

During court proceedings, Mukhtar’s defense lawyer requested bail, noting that further investigation was necessary. However, Judge Malam Isah Rabi’u Gaya ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine the accused’s mental condition.

The case was adjourned to November 22, 2024, with Mukhtar remaining in custody until then.
