A somber mass burial ceremony was held for fifteen victims who tragically lost their lives in an attack by the newly emerged terror group, Lakurawa, in Mera village, located within the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State in north-western Nigeria.
The attack, which has shocked the local community, has brought both grief and resolve to the people of the region.
The funeral service saw a strong showing of solidarity from key government and security officials. Among the attendees were Deputy Governor Umar Tafida, the Commissioner of Police, and several other high-ranking security personnel. Also present was the Emir of Argungu, HRH Isma’ila Mera, who offered words of comfort to the grieving families.
During his address, Deputy Governor Tafida expressed deep sympathy to the victims’ families, assuring them that the State Governor stands with them during this difficult time. He promised that the government would collaborate closely with security forces to prevent future attacks and enhance safety measures throughout the state. Tafida emphasized that the tragedy would not go unaddressed and that efforts would be made to ensure the security and well-being of all citizens.
The Emir of Argungu also spoke at the funeral, urging the people to remain united and resilient in the face of adversity. He called on security agencies to ramp up efforts to ensure the safety of local communities and to prevent further attacks from terror groups like Lakurawa. His message resonated deeply with the mourners, reinforcing the need for collective action in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The funeral prayer included heartfelt supplications for the departed souls, asking for their peaceful repose and for the restoration of peace in the community.
