Tension In Ogun As Man Sets Wife Ablaze

A 55-year-old man, Olubunmi Johnson, has been arrested by officers from the Ogun State police command for allegedly setting his wife on fire in the Ota area of the state.

The shocking incident occurred at approximately 8:30 pm on Friday in the couple’s home on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, following a heated argument between the two.

According to reports, the suspect, in a fit of anger, poured petrol on his wife, Kikelomo, and set her alight. The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who spoke to DAILY POST on Monday. She revealed that the police were alerted to the situation by the victim’s family members.

While the exact cause of the dispute between the couple remains unclear, it was reported that a witness to the horrific act immediately rushed Kikelomo to the hospital. Fortunately, her injuries are being treated, though the severity of her condition has not been disclosed.

Odutola further confirmed that Johnson had been taken into custody and is facing charges related to attempted murder. An investigation into the case is underway, as the police work to gather more details about the circumstances leading to the tragic event.

“The police officers from the Ilogbo Division responded swiftly, leading to the prompt arrest of the suspect,” Odutola explained. “He reportedly drenched his wife in petrol and set her on fire using a match. After the incident, witnesses acted quickly to transport the victim to medical care. Following the report, our detectives took immediate steps to apprehend the husband, who is now in police custody,” she added.
