Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 elections, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Chidimma Adetshina for her remarkable achievement as the first runner-up in the 2024 Miss Universe pageant, held in Mexico.
Adetshina’s impressive performance also earned her the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, marking her as the highest-ranked contestant from Africa this year.
Adetshina’s success is all the more inspiring given the challenges she overcame on her path to global recognition. Born in Enugu, Nigeria, she faced significant adversity and xenophobic abuse during her participation in Miss South Africa, where she was born and raised. Despite these obstacles, Adetshina’s resilience shone through, leading her to the Miss Universe stage, where she represented her heritage and her Nigerian roots with pride.

Although Adetshina didn’t secure the 2024 Miss Universe crown, Obi noted that finishing as first runner-up among more than 120 contestants from across the world, and emerging as the top contestant from Africa, is a remarkable feat that makes Nigerians proud.
