President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to present the 2025 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.
This development was confirmed by Dr. Ali Barde Umoru, Secretary of Research and Information at the National Assembly, who shared the announcement on Monday. Speaking to journalists, Dr. Umoru not only verified the upcoming budget presentation but also requested a list of authorized individuals who would be permitted to enter the chamber during the session.
This presentation follows the recent submission of the 2024–2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper by President Tinubu to both houses of the National Assembly three weeks ago. In the MTEF, the administration outlined plans for a total projected expenditure of ₦26.1 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year.
In preparation for the budget presentation, the Senate Finance Committee held extensive discussions with heads of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) over the past two weeks. These discussions focused on projected revenue and expenses, enabling the Senate Finance Committee to finalize and approve the MTEF. This approval process has set the stage for Tinubu’s official budget presentation, where he is expected to outline key spending priorities and policy goals for the coming year.
This proposed budget will not only reveal the administration’s fiscal targets but will also reflect its approach to addressing Nigeria’s pressing economic needs. Lawmakers, industry stakeholders, and the public are closely watching as the government seeks to navigate challenges such as inflation, infrastructure demands, and the need for economic stability.
