Davido Responds to Threats of Show Cancellation Over Controversial Interview
Nigerian Grammy-nominated artist, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shrugged off the threats to cancel his highly anticipated Lagos concert, which is scheduled for December 24, 2024, following the backlash from a recent interview. The singer received widespread criticism after stating that the Nigerian economy was struggling and advising Nigerians abroad not to return to the country.
In a defiant post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Davido revealed that some groups are threatening to cancel his upcoming show in Lagos due to the controversy surrounding his statements. However, the singer made it clear that he remains unfazed by the situation.
“LAGOS DEC 24TH! Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in NIGERIA,” Davido wrote, maintaining his usual confident and unbothered stance. Despite the opposition, he emphasized that his decision to perform or not in Nigeria is ultimately up to him.

“Nigerians are among the brightest minds in the global music industry. Even in my record label, Sony Music, Africans bring the best ideas. That shows that our imagination is off the grid,” Davido continued, stressing the creative potential of Africans in shaping international trends.
