The Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has granted bail to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in the sum of ₦500 million.
The ruling was made on Friday by presiding Judge Emeka Nwite, who also ordered that Bello must provide two sureties, each of whom must offer an affidavit of means and own property in Abuja.
The judge further instructed that the title documents of the properties, which must be located within the Federal Capital Territory, be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court. Additionally, Bello was ordered to deposit his international passport with the court, while both he and his sureties must also submit two recent passport-sized photographs.
Until these bail conditions are met, Justice Nwite ruled that Bello should be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja.
Bello, who faces charges of an alleged ₦80 billion fraud brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), pleaded not guilty to the charges. The EFCC has accused the former governor of money laundering in relation to a 19-count charge.
