President Tinubu Approves Federal University for Southern Kaduna, Promises Development
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Federal University in Southern Kaduna, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing quality education across all regions of Nigeria.
Gists9ja reports that the announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a condolence visit to the Kukah family over the passing of His Highness, Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, a family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto. The visit took place in Ikulu Kingdom, Kamuru, Zangon Kataf Council Area of Kaduna State.
Federal University and Medical Centre in the Pipeline
Shettima disclosed that discussions are also underway to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, further underlining the government’s focus on improving public services in the region.
“With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” the Vice President revealed in a statement issued by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha.
Commitment to Southern Kaduna Development
During his visit, Shettima emphasized President Tinubu’s dedication to addressing the developmental and security needs of Southern Kaduna. He cited the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the administration’s focus on the region.
“Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” Shettima assured.
The Vice President also praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive governance approach, highlighting the importance of connecting all communities to foster a sense of belonging. He pledged federal support for state-led initiatives, particularly in road infrastructure development.
Bishop Kukah’s Appeal for Infrastructure Development
Speaking on behalf of his family, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s visit and called attention to the poor state of roads in the area.
“You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken. I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and a friend of this community. We are honoured to have you,” Bishop Kukah stated.

The establishment of a federal university and proposed medical centre are expected to bring significant development to Southern Kaduna, improving access to education and healthcare while fostering economic growth in the region.
