A suspected bomb explosion has left the residents of Umuneke Obazu Mbieri, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, in shock and fear.
Gists9ja reports that the community was left in devastation when they woke up on Sunday morning to discover the aftermath of the incident.
In an interview with journalists, a community leader, Emeka Arimanwa, revealed that around 1 am, a strange sighting occurred as a suspected drone was seen hovering over Umuneke Obazu and the neighboring communities of Umunjam and Amaulu in Ihitte Mbieri autonomous area. This unusual occurrence immediately raised alarms among the locals.
According to Arimanwa, within 10 minutes of observing the mysterious object, a loud explosion shook the area, causing extensive damage. One building was completely destroyed, and several nearby structures suffered varying degrees of damage. The explosion left residents in a state of fear and uncertainty, as no such incident had ever been recorded in the community.
Arimanwa appealed to security agencies to urgently visit the scene of the explosion to assess the full extent of the destruction and to investigate the cause of the blast.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the Mbieri Police Division, Superintendent Wet Ben, was reported to have visited the site of the explosion but has not yet made any official statement about the cause of the blast.
Local government chairman, Ifunanya Nwanegwo, also visited the area to assess the damage. During his visit, he spoke to the residents, urging them to remain calm. Nwanegwo reassured the community that steps were being taken to fully investigate the explosion and uncover its origins.
