Landmark Africa Group has signed a groundbreaking agreement with the Enugu State Government to lease the iconic Nike Lake Resort, a 150-hectare tourism landmark, for 35 years.

Gists9ja reports that this collaboration is set to redefine the resort as a world-class destination for tourism and leisure, aligning with the state’s vision of sustainable economic development and global recognition.

The partnership is poised to attract over three million visitors annually, significantly boosting Enugu’s tourism, business, and investment sectors. Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, during the official announcement, highlighted the transformative potential of the project. He emphasized that the state government would provide the necessary infrastructure to support the resort’s development, aiming to position Enugu as a prime destination for tourism and commerce in the region.

“This initiative represents a crucial step in our strategy to make Enugu a regional hub for investment and a better place for our people to live and work,” Governor Mbah said.

Paul Onwuanibe, Managing Director of Landmark Africa Group, expressed his gratitude to the Enugu State Government for the opportunity to spearhead this transformative project. He assured stakeholders that the development would not only elevate Nike Lake Resort into a central hub for tourism, leisure, and hospitality but would also create significant employment opportunities for the youth and contribute to the state’s economic growth.

“We are committed to turning Nike Lake Resort into a destination that will attract both domestic and international visitors while providing jobs and boosting the local economy,” Onwuanibe stated.

The redevelopment of Nike Lake Resort will breathe new life into one of Enugu’s most notable landmarks, enhancing its appeal to global tourists and investors. With plans for state-of-the-art facilities, the project is expected to drive economic activity, strengthen Enugu’s tourism sector, and position it as a key player in Nigeria’s hospitality industry.

This ambitious venture comes as a significant step for Landmark Africa Group, following a turbulent chapter in Lagos, where the company faced the demolition of its flagship project, Landmark Beach.

Landmark Beach, situated along Lagos’ coastline, was envisioned as one of West Africa’s premier hospitality and leisure destinations, integrating residential, commercial, and recreational facilities. Despite its potential to boost Lagos’ economy, the project encountered regulatory challenges, including disputes over land ownership and construction permits.

In 2022, the Lagos State Government ordered the demolition of Landmark Beach, citing violations of building codes and environmental concerns. Officials raised issues about coastal erosion, environmental degradation, and the misuse of land designated for environmental protection, which led to the project’s controversial end.

The Nike Lake Resort project represents a fresh chapter for Landmark Africa Group, as it seeks to restore its reputation and reinforce its position as a leader in Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sectors. By partnering with the Enugu State Government, the company has the opportunity to create a transformative success story, showcasing the potential for public-private partnerships to drive economic development and improve community livelihoods.
