Vigilante In Sanusi’s Eid Entourage Stabbed To Death In Kano

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old suspect, Usman Sagiru, of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the fatal stabbing of a vigilante member who was part of the entourage of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The tragic incident took place on Sunday, March 30, following the Eid prayers.

According to the police, the attack occurred around 12:40 p.m. as worshippers were leaving the Eid prayer ground. Reports indicate that Sagiru, along with other suspects who remain at large, targeted the vigilantes, leading to a violent altercation. During the assault, Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, was stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries. Another member of the vigilante group, Aminu Suleman of Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

In response to the attack, law enforcement authorities have intensified efforts to track down the remaining perpetrators. A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the violence and bring all those responsible to justice.

As part of the inquiry, the police have invited Alhaji Wada Isyaku, known as Shamakin Kano, for questioning regarding his possible involvement or knowledge of the incident. Authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to restore order and prevent further disturbances.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has reiterated its firm stance against unauthorized Durbar celebrations, stressing that any defiance of the ban will result in legal action. The command also reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards thuggery (locally known as Daba) and other activities that pose a threat to public peace and security.

In a statement, the police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace in the state. Authorities assured the public of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while calling on community leaders to support efforts aimed at preventing violence and unrest.

The police command has also heightened security measures across Kano State, deploying personnel to strategic locations to prevent any escalation of violence. Residents have been advised to report any suspicious activities to the authorities to ensure swift intervention and prevent further incidents.

This development underscores the state government’s determination to curb criminal activities and uphold law and order, particularly during major public gatherings. Security agencies remain on high alert to avert any further breaches of peace in the state.
