Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved Sunday, April 6, 2025, as the resumption date for both day and boarding schools following a five-week break for the Ramadan fast.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday, April 3, by the Bauchi State Ministry of Education through its Information and Public Relations Officer, Jalaludeen Usman.
The ministry reminded parents and guardians of the importance of timely resumption, warning that late return to school would not be tolerated.
Background and Public Concerns
Schools in Bauchi State were initially closed on March 1, 2025, in line with the 2024–2025 academic calendar. However, the extended closure sparked concerns from religious organizations and civil society groups, who questioned its impact on students’ academic performance.
Despite these concerns, the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to education, emphasizing efforts to support students’ learning and examination preparation.
Government’s Commitment to Education
The statement from the Ministry of Education, signed by Commissioner Dr. Lawal Mohammed Rimin Zayam, read:
“The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Mohammed Rimin Zayam, wishes to remind parents and guardians that the resumption date for the continuation of the second term is Sunday, 6th April, for both day and boarding schools in Bauchi State.
“As education remains a top priority for the Bauchi State Government under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, the Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring the success of all students.”
Additionally, the ministry announced plans to commence JAMB CBT training for students sponsored by the state government to enhance their performance in upcoming examinations.
Parents and guardians have been urged to ensure their wards return to school as scheduled to avoid disruptions in their academic progress.
