In a notable shift from recent criticisms, key members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu North Senatorial District have publicly praised Governor Peter Mbah for his developmental strides across Enugu State, particularly in the Nsukka zone.
The commendation came during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday at Ogbete, Enugu, where prominent figures of the APC gathered to discuss both party affairs and state governance.
Among the attendees were General JOJ Okolagu (retd), a member of the APC Board of Trustees; former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo; and the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Solo. The meeting also included executive members at zonal and national levels.
Praise for Governor Mbah’s Projects
The APC leaders acknowledged that, despite being in opposition, Governor Mbah’s administration has made significant progress, especially in the Enugu North senatorial district. They highlighted key infrastructure investments, such as the distribution of Smart Schools and Primary Health Centres, which have greatly benefited local communities.
They noted that Enugu North, which holds the highest number of political wards in the state, has received special attention in terms of developmental projects.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, General Okolagu emphasized that true APC stakeholders in the state are committed to acknowledging good governance, regardless of political affiliations.
“We are the foundation members of the APC in Enugu, but unfortunately, the party has been hijacked by newcomers who are mismanaging it,” Okolagu said. “Some of us who built this party are now being sidelined, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they wake up tomorrow to say I’ve been expelled—even as a BOT member.”
Internal Party Crisis Addressed
The meeting also focused heavily on resolving the ongoing internal crisis within the APC in Enugu State. Former Speaker Eugene Odo blamed the chaos on the leadership style of Ugochukwu Agballa, the current APC chairman in the state, accusing him of issuing arbitrary suspensions and fostering division among party members.
Odo further alleged that the crisis is being fueled by external interference, specifically from Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State. He urged the Imo governor to focus on his state’s affairs and stop meddling in Enugu’s political terrain.
Call for Federal Fairness
Odo also criticized the federal government’s recent appointments, which he described as lopsided and unfair to the Nsukka people. He urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure more equitable representation for the region in future federal appointments.
“We are a peaceful people, but our humility should not be mistaken for weakness,” Odo warned. “Nsukka deserves a fair share in the governance of this country.”
Despite their dissatisfaction with the APC’s internal issues and federal appointments, the leaders concluded the meeting with a strong message of support for Governor Mbah.
“The election is over. We are no longer in campaign mode. What we see now is governance, and we must commend it when it is working,” Odo said. “Governor Mbah’s work, especially in Enugu North Senatorial District, is visible and commendable. We urge him to continue without relenting.”
