
Paris Saint-Germain are set to face Inter Miami in the Round of 16 of the ongoing Club World Cup in the United States.
The matchup has already been dubbed the “Lionel Messi Derby” by fans and pundits, given the Argentine star’s move to MLS side
Inter Miami from his former club, PSG.Inter Miami secured their place in the knockout stage after a 2-2 draw with Palmeiras.
Inter Miami had surged ahead with a two-goal lead, courtesy of strikes from Tadeo Allende and Luis Suárez in each half.
However, Palmeiras responded late in the game, drawing level within seven minutes through goals by Paulinho and Mauricio.
With their advancement, Inter Miami stand as the only MLS team to reach the Round of 16, following the elimination of both Los Angeles FC and the Seattle Sounders.
Palmeiras have also secured a place in the next round as Group G winners and are set to face Botafogo in the Round of 16. The all-Brazilian clash adds further excitement to the tournament’s knockout stage.
