Benue Farmer Critically Injured in Suspected Herdsmen Attack, Loses Finger

A young farmer from Tse-Iordye community in Ndzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, is fighting for his life after being viciously attacked by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.

The attack occurred while the victim was working on his farmland. According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants descended on him, inflicting grievous injuries, including:

The amputation of one finger,

Deep arm lacerations that severed veins,

Severe head wounds.

Medical officials treating him described his condition as critical, stating that his chances of survival currently stand at “50-50.”

Before being rushed to the hospital, the victim was first taken to the police divisional headquarters in Gbajimba, from where he was transferred for urgent medical treatment. Doctors are now working tirelessly to stabilize him.

The attack has once again sparked outrage among residents, with locals appealing to both the state and federal governments to take immediate steps to curb the recurring violence. Communities across Guma and other parts of Benue have for years suffered frequent herdsmen assaults that have led to the loss of many lives and the displacement of thousands.
