Gunmen Kill Three Policemen at Kogi Checkpoint

Gunmen have killed three police officers at a checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The attack happened at the border town between Kogi and Kwara states, sparking tension in the community.

Spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident in a statement.

“I can confirm that three officers on duty were killed today in Egbe, a border community with Kwara State. The Commissioner of Police has deployed a tactical squad, and we are on the trail of the perpetrators,” Aya said.

He noted that the tactical team has been tasked with restoring calm and pursuing the attackers.

Community sources revealed that the assailants carted away the rifles of the slain officers during the assault.

This incident comes just two days after a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), DSP Adama Adekunle Emmanuel, was reportedly shot dead by a colleague under unclear circumstances at a hotel in Abuja’s Life Camp area.

According to Gist9ja, the widow of the deceased officer, Titilayo Adams, has alleged foul play, claiming the injuries on her husband’s body did not indicate an accident.
