A presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Stanley Osifo, has stated that President Bola Tinubu would support him if he succeeds in defeating the incumbent during the party’s presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Osifo, who is currently the only publicly known challenger to Tinubu within the APC presidential race, said there was no hostility or division within the ruling party despite the growing contest for the party’s ticket.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, the APC aspirant maintained that internal competition should not be interpreted as conflict, stressing that all aspirants remain members of the same political family.
According to him, the outcome of the party primary would ultimately determine the strength of his political ambition and chances against the sitting president.
“For chances, I can’t really state or detect now. I think the day of the election will really tell the extent or the level of chance I have against him,” Osifo said.
He further argued that incumbency alone does not guarantee victory in any election, noting that political contests are decided by party members and delegates.
“Being an incumbent is not a guarantee that the election is going to go his way or my way, but one thing that is important is that we are one party and we are not fighting ourselves,” he stated.
Osifo also pledged loyalty to the APC regardless of the outcome of the presidential primary, saying he would support Tinubu if the President secures the party’s ticket for the 2027 election.
At the same time, he insisted that Tinubu should also be willing to support him if delegates choose him as the APC flag bearer.
“We are members of the All Progressives Congress, so if I defeat him at the end of the day, I think he also has to work with me,” he said.
“And if he wins, the same thing — I will work with him and support him. So we’re not fighting in the All Progressives Congress, it is one party, and I strongly believe that we have an understanding amongst ourselves as APC members.”
Osifo maintained that the APC remains united despite internal political ambitions and competition ahead of the 2027 elections.
