
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release of Mr. Daniel Onyishi, the State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Onyishi was said to have been kidnapped on June 12, during the democracy day public holiday along Oby Okoli Road, not far from Winner Chapel, in Anambra, in the early ours of the day.
A press release by the Anambra State Police Commands Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the release of the director was confirmed by the state police commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu
Ikenga noted that the police, in partnership with other security agencies—particularly the NDLEA team led by Zone 12 Commander Mrs. Florence Ezeonye—coordinated efforts that successfully secured the victim’s release.
A portion of the official statement reads: “The Anambra State Police Command, on June 22, 2025, confirmed the release of the kidnapped NDLEA Anambra State Director, Mr. Daniel Onyishi.
“It will be recalled that he was abducted in the early hours of June 12, 2025, along Winner Road, Awka. He is now in safe custody and currently receiving medical care.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has informed the Police High Command of the development and has implemented the Inspector General of Police’s directive to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice
