Four Dead, Driver Loses Legs as Truck Rams Into Commercial Bus on Lagos Bridge

Four people have been killed and 13 others critically injured in a fatal collision between a truck and a commercial bus on Alaro City Bridge, inward T-Junction, in Epe, Lagos State.

The truck driver also reportedly lost both legs in the crash, which occurred on the single-lane bridge when the truck rammed into a fully loaded commercial bus, leaving several victims trapped in the wreckage.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, describing the crash as a devastating road accident.

According to the agency, the four deceased victims included the commercial bus driver, while 13 passengers sustained critical injuries.

“The truck driver also suffered grievous bodily trauma, sustaining the traumatic severance of both legs, which became trapped within the mangled wreckage following the collision,” the statement said.

LASTMA, FRSC Rescue Accident Victims

LASTMA operatives, working alongside officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), participated in the rescue operation and evacuated the bodies of the deceased victims to a mortuary.

The Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the 13 critically injured passengers to the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment.

Security personnel from the Epe Police Division also supported the operation by securing the accident scene and helping ensure that rescue efforts proceeded in an orderly manner.

LASTMA Boss Reacts to Fatal Crash

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the collision.

He described the loss as deeply distressing and sympathised with the bereaved families while wishing the injured victims a speedy and full recovery.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations, particularly when navigating bridges, narrow roads and other restricted sections where dangerous driving could result in fatal accidents.

Traffic Measures Introduced on Affected Route

Meanwhile, LASTMA said its officers had introduced traffic management measures along the affected corridor to ease congestion, regulate vehicle movement and gradually restore normal traffic flow.

The agency added that its personnel remained at the scene and surrounding areas to manage the traffic backlog and ensure the orderly movement of vehicles.

LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, promoting road safety and responding promptly to traffic incidents in collaboration with emergency responders and security agencies.

The authority also advised motorists to maintain safe following distances, observe speed limits and avoid dangerous manoeuvres, particularly on bridges and narrow roads.
