At least five people, including four postgraduate students, have reportedly died in an accident involving the convoy of Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago along the Minna–Bida Road.
The accident occurred on Monday morning, October 26, 2026, at Gidan Mongoro, while the convoy was reportedly returning to Minna after a condolence visit to the Etsu Nupe in Bida over the death of Hajia Aisha, Sagin Nupe.
The deceased reportedly comprised four students and a driver attached to the Niger State Government House.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger State, Aishat Sa’adu, confirmed the incident but did not provide further details.
It was not immediately clear whether Governor Bago was in the convoy when the accident occurred.
Two Deceased Identified as FUT Minna Postgraduate Students
Two of the deceased students were identified as Nafisat Abubakar Aguye and Ibrahim Ado Bayero, both reportedly postgraduate students of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna.
The identities of the two other students had not been disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Dauda Chukuba, the Director-General of Government House, reportedly sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna for treatment.
Police Begin Investigation
The Niger State Police Command confirmed that an investigation into the incident was underway.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the circumstances surrounding the accident were being investigated.
