Kwankwaso Has More Impressive Political Background Than Peter Obi – Buhari’s Ex-Aide

A former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has argued that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso possesses a longer and more impressive political background than his principal on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential ticket, Peter Obi.

Ahmad made the remarks in a post on his X handle while commenting on the political relationship between the two politicians.

According to the former presidential aide, Kwankwaso’s decision to accept the position of running mate should be seen as an act of political modesty rather than an indication that he is inferior to Obi.

“To be entirely candid, the political dynamic between Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi ought to be characterised as one of collegiality between peers, rather than a hierarchy of principal and subordinate,” he wrote.

He added that Kwankwaso’s decision to take a deputy role beneath Obi should be interpreted as “a testament to political modesty.”

Making a case for the former Kano governor’s political experience, Ahmad noted that Kwankwaso served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives before Obi emerged as a major figure in national politics.

He also highlighted Kwankwaso’s tenure as Governor of Kano State, as well as his service as a federal minister.

“If we are assessing political experience, Sen. Kwankwaso probably has a longer and more impressive political background than Peter Obi,” Ahmad said.

In contrast, Ahmad argued that Obi’s major experience in public office was his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.

“Unlike other candidates, Peter Obi was just a former governor of Anambra State,” he wrote.

Ahmad’s remarks are likely to generate further debate among supporters of both politicians as discussions surrounding the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election continue.
