Collins Opurozor, Special Adviser to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma on Electronic and Creative Media, has questioned the level of political support enjoyed by former governor Rochas Okorocha amid the ongoing dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Imo West.
Opurozor made the remarks during an interview on ARISE TV, where he challenged claims that Okorocha enjoys widespread support in Imo State, the Southeast and other parts of the country.
The governor’s aide argued that visits by prominent APC leaders to the former governor should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of widespread grassroots support.
He also questioned why other influential political figures had not publicly congratulated Okorocha following the court decisions connected to the dispute over the Imo West senatorial ticket.
Opurozor further referred to an incident involving Okorocha and some residents of Imo State at a gathering along a street named after former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
According to the governor’s aide, Okorocha encountered the residents at the gathering and insisted that the street should be renamed.
He suggested that the incident contributed to the anger surrounding the former governor.
“Besides the man you’re talking about, who else has congratulated Rochas Okorocha? Name one within the state, within the Southeast, and across Nigeria—not even one. And do you know what happened in the aftermath of that congratulation? He met Imo people gathered at a street named after Ganduje and insisted that the street must be renamed. That is the anger,” Opurozor said.
His comments come amid the political and legal contest surrounding the APC senatorial ticket for Imo West, a development that has continued to generate reactions among political stakeholders in the state.
