The All Progressives Congress has declared Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura winner of its re-run primary for Zamfara North Senatorial District, resolving a dispute that led to the annulment of the party’s earlier nomination process.
Kaura polled 16,758 votes in the primary held on Monday, November 2, 2026, ahead of Sahabi Alhaji Yau, who received 1,465 votes, and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who scored 1,447, according to results announced by the party’s senatorial primary election committee.
Announcing the results, committee member Sani Abdullahi said Kaura had secured the highest number of valid votes and met the requirements for nomination under the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
The committee said 19,608 delegates were accredited from a register of 23,257, while 19,292 valid votes were recorded.
The re-run followed a court ruling that nullified the previous primary over reported irregularities. The Court of Appeal in Sokoto upheld the Federal High Court in Gusau’s decision and ordered the APC to conduct a fresh exercise.
The committee’s chairman and secretary signed the final result sheet on November 2, formally returning Kaura as the party’s candidate for the district in the 2027 general election.
