'My Mum Married Down' – Nigerian Lady Sparks Reactions As She Blames Mother For Marrying A Poor Man [Video]

A Nigerian woman has sparked widespread reactions on social media after expressing disappointment over her mother’s decision to marry her father, claiming the choice negatively affected her life opportunities.

In a video making the rounds online, the lady revealed that she had repeatedly questioned her mother about why she chose to marry a man she considered to be below her family’s socioeconomic status.

According to her, her mother came from a privileged and financially stable background, with several of her maternal uncles living abroad.

She, however, contrasted her mother’s affluent upbringing with her father’s financial background, arguing that her mother should have married someone from a more privileged family.

Expressing her frustration, the lady disclosed that her disappointment had become so intense that she changed her surname.

“My mum married down and it’s affecting me. I have been so angry I even changed my surname. It annoys me. I am angry. I have told her that I am very disappointed in her. She left better men to get pregnant for and ended up with Victor?” she said.

The woman further argued that her mother’s marital decision had limited her personal growth and opportunities.

She suggested that her strong work ethic and ambitions would have taken her further in life if she had been raised in a wealthier environment or a developed country.

She also questioned why her mother would expect her to follow the same path when, in her view, it had exposed her to avoidable financial difficulties.

The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians criticising the woman over her comments about her parents.

While some social media users expressed sympathy for her concerns about the impact of financial hardship on children, others described her remarks as disrespectful, entitled and ungrateful.

Several commenters also questioned her decision to blame her mother for the family’s financial circumstances rather than focus on building the future she desires.
