The 8th Enugu State House of Assembly members-elect will be inaugurated tomorrow.
Clerk of the House/Head of Legislative Service, Dr Emma Udaya, in a statement, yesterday, said the inauguration would be held in the hallowed chamber of the State Assembly complex, Independence Layout by 10am.
This is coming days after reports went viral of a plot to secretly inaugurate the 10 PDP members-elect without LP’s 14 majority members.
Udaya had denied the allegation saying the 8th Assembly would be inaugurated on the expiration of the 7th Assembly.
In the statement announcing the date for the inauguration of the 8th Assembly, Udaya said: “The statement reads in parts, “Every member-elect is expected to bring the originals of his/her certificate of return from INEC and Code of Conduct Acknowledgement slip of Assets declaration to the Clerk of the House for sighting and verification. All members-elect are advised to be seated on their respective Constituency seats in the hallowed chamber of the House at 9.30am as punctuality is an invaluable decorum of the honourable House.”
It is however anticipated that tomorrow’s event would be full of intrigues and tension as the main opposition party in state, Labour Party (LP) has 14 out the 24 members-elect, leaving the ruling PDP with 10. Also interesting is that the PDP, though in the minority has the ranking lawmakers-elect that places them in the best position to produce principal officers, especially the Speaker of the House.
