Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has spoken out in defense of former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate Nengi following confirmation of her pregnancy.
Nengi’s revelation came after the controversial Instagram blog Gistlover alleged that she was expecting a child with a prominent Nigerian governor. The speculation gained traction online, with many netizens pointing fingers at Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri as the alleged father.
Addressing the rumors, Nengi took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday to confirm her pregnancy but firmly denied any involvement with a governor. She emphasized that while she generally ignores false narratives, this particular allegation not only attacked her character but also implicated individuals she deeply respects.
Her statement sought to put an end to the speculation, making it clear that her pregnancy was a private matter that had been unnecessarily sensationalized by gossip blogs and social media users.
Reacting to the controversy, Spyro took to Instagram on Tuesday to express his support for Nengi, urging critics to focus on their own lives instead of spreading falsehoods. The singer emphasized that a child is a divine blessing and should not be subjected to unnecessary controversy.
“Honestly, y’all should please leave her alone and face your lives o. That baby is of the Lord and a BIG gift,” he wrote. “BEAUTIFUL IN AND OUT. Love always #Nengi.”

Meanwhile, Governor Douye Diri has categorically denied any involvement in Nengi’s pregnancy. Addressing the rumors, he attributed them to political adversaries attempting to tarnish his reputation.
Expressing disappointment over the claims, Governor Diri questioned the timing of the allegations, noting that they surfaced on the same day his administration marked its fifth anniversary. He described the accusations as a deliberate attempt to distract from his achievements and create unnecessary controversy.
His Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, also weighed in on the issue, dismissing the viral claims as baseless fabrications meant to mislead the public.
The situation has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users condemning the spread of falsehoods and invasion of privacy, while others continue to speculate about the circumstances surrounding Nengi’s pregnancy.
