Former Oyo Governor, Olunloyo, Is Dead

Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo State and a revered figure in Nigerian public service, has passed away just days before his 90th birthday.

His death occurred in the early hours of Sunday and was officially announced in a statement released by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the Olunloyo family.

“It is with profound sorrow, yet with gratitude to the Almighty, that we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo,” the statement read. “A former governor of Oyo State, a brilliant mathematician, engineer, and accomplished technocrat, he departed this life only a few days before turning 90.”

Dr. Olunloyo was not only a political leader but also a traditional titleholder, bearing the prestigious titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife. He was widely respected for his intellect, statesmanship, and numerous contributions to national development.

His career in public service was both diverse and distinguished. Among his many achievements, he made history as the first Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and later served as the pioneer Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic. His legacy in education and governance left a lasting imprint on the institutions he led and the people he served.

“Dr. Olunloyo’s lifelong dedication to the progress of Nigeria and his commitment to humanity remain a source of immense pride to his family, friends, and associates,” the statement continued. “As we mourn this irreplaceable loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived in service to others.”

The family has appealed for privacy as they grieve and prepare funeral arrangements for a dignified farewell to the elder statesman.
