President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District following a sweeping performance across the district’s local government areas.
According to the official results announced after the exercise, Akpabio secured a total of 121,425 votes across the 10 local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
The breakdown of the results showed that the Senate President polled 11,895 votes in Abak, 12,877 in Essien Udim, 9,148 in Etim Ekpo, 9,325 in Ika, 10,153 in Ikono, 12,174 in Ikot Ekpene, 8,874 in Ini, 10,062 in Obot Akara, 19,586 in Oruk Anam, and 17,328 votes in Ukanafun.
The victory further strengthens Akpabio’s political influence in Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a related development, Governor Hope Uzodimma also secured the APC ticket for the Imo West Senatorial District.
The Returning Officer for the primary, Williams Kayode, declared Uzodimma winner after he polled 230,464 votes across the 12 local government areas in the Orlu zone.
Former Rochas Okorocha trailed far behind with 1,098 votes.
Meanwhile, former Senate President Ahmad Lawan was declared the consensus APC senatorial candidate for Yobe North.
Reacting to his emergence, Lawan described the development as a victory for democracy, unity, and collective progress rather than a personal achievement.
“This is not a personal victory but a victory for democracy, for unity of purpose, and for our collective commitment to the progress of Yobe North,” Lawan said.
He also expressed gratitude to the APC leadership, stakeholders in Yobe North, and Governor Mai Mala Buni for supporting his candidacy.
In Abia State, Erondu Erondu clinched the APC senatorial ticket for Abia South after polling 16,640 votes in the primary election.
He defeated Nyerere Anyim, who secured 5,206 votes, Blessing Nwagba with 4,456 votes, and Paul Ikonne, who polled 4,099 votes.
Erondu is expected to face incumbent senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of the Labour Party during the 2027 senatorial election.
