Member of the House of Representatives representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Constituency, Abdulkadir Rahis, has distributed cash gifts totaling N26 million to 442 executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his constituency ahead of the Sallah celebration.
The development comes shortly after Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan attracted public attention for reportedly distributing N135.65 million to APC executives in the same Maiduguri constituency.
According to reports, both politicians explained that the financial support was intended to assist party officials and loyalists during the festive season.
Rahis, who recently emerged victorious in the APC primary election, reportedly secured 20,509 votes to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the next general election.
If re-elected, the lawmaker would be returning to the House of Representatives for a fifth consecutive term.
Before becoming a federal lawmaker, Rahis had also served five terms as chairman of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council in Borno State.
Speaking during the event, the lawmaker described the cash distribution as part of his long-standing tradition of supporting party members, stakeholders, and loyalists during festive periods.
In a message shared on Facebook, Rahis said the gesture reflected his continued commitment to the welfare of party executives and supporters across the constituency.
The gathering reportedly attracted APC executives, ward officials, supporters, and other stakeholders from different parts of Maiduguri Metropolitan.
However, the cash distribution has generated mixed reactions on social media and among political observers.
While many party loyalists commended the lawmakers for supporting grassroots party members during the Sallah season, critics questioned the practice of transporting and publicly displaying large amounts of cash at political events.
Others also raised concerns about the growing culture of financial patronage in Nigerian politics, especially during election seasons and party activities.
