Bala Mohammed has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Jalam, who passed away in Makkah during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
Jalam, who also held the traditional title of Turakin Dawakin Misau, reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness while participating in the annual pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement released through the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described the late permanent secretary as a loyal, dedicated and hardworking public servant whose contributions greatly impacted the development of Bauchi State.
According to the governor, the deceased played important roles in the successful coordination of previous Hajj operations and several other sensitive government responsibilities entrusted to him over the years.
Mohammed stated that the death of Jalam represents a painful loss not only to the Bauchi State Government but also to his family, professional colleagues and the wider community.
The statement further disclosed that funeral prayers for the deceased would be conducted later in the day after the Zuhur prayer at the Holy Mosque of the Ka’aba in Makkah.
Governor Mohammed extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the Office of the Head of Civil Service, as well as the Misau and Dambam Emirate Councils.
He also prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the late official, asking God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
