BREAKING: Bayelsa Assembly Approves Akpe’s Appointment As Deputy Governor

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has confirmed the nomination of Peter Pereotubo Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, formally approving his elevation to the role following legislative consideration.

Akpe’s emergence comes in the wake of the death of the former deputy governor, Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on December 11, 2025, creating a vacancy in the state’s executive council.

Before his nomination, Akpe served as Chief of Staff to the governor, where he played a key administrative role in coordinating government operations and policy implementation. In addition to his public service career, he is an ordained pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Akpe brings decades of experience in governance, having worked within both the Rivers State and Bayelsa State civil services. He also previously served as a lawmaker in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, giving him legislative as well as executive branch exposure.

His résumé further includes a tenure as a commissioner during the administration of former Bayelsa governor, Seriake Dickson, where he was involved in key state development initiatives.

Lawmakers described his confirmation as a move aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and maintaining administrative stability following the loss of his predecessor.
