Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1) from ₦1,750 to ₦1,650 per litre in a move aimed at easing the financial burden on airline operators and ensuring steady fuel supply across Nigeria.
The price cut was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, as the refinery unveiled additional measures targeted at supporting the aviation sector.
Beyond the reduction in fuel price, the company also introduced a 30-day interest-free credit facility for marketers and airline operators, backed by bank guarantees.
The refinery further announced a transition from a dollar-denominated pricing structure to a naira-based system, a development expected to reduce foreign exchange pressure on operators within the aviation industry.
The interventions come at a time when domestic airlines continue to battle rising operational costs, with aviation fuel accounting for a major share of airline expenses.
Industry stakeholders have repeatedly raised concerns over the increasing cost of Jet A1, warning that soaring fuel prices could threaten the sustainability of local flight operations and place additional pressure on airfares.
Analysts believe the latest move by the Dangote refinery could provide temporary relief for airline operators by lowering fuel procurement costs, improving operational stability, and supporting efforts to moderate ticket prices for passengers.
The development is also expected to strengthen local fuel supply and reduce dependence on imported aviation fuel within the country.
