Members of an armed group identified as the Ekpeye Freedom Fighters in Rivers State have reportedly appealed to the founder of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, to help them abandon militancy and return to normal life.
In a video circulating on social media, some members of the group were seen raising their hands while appealing to the Port Harcourt-based pastor to intervene on their behalf.
The armed men reportedly said they were tired of living in the creeks, engaging in violence and constantly hiding from security agencies.
They expressed willingness to embrace amnesty and rehabilitation, identifying Apostle Chinyere as someone they trust to help them turn away from their alleged criminal activities.
“We are calling on Apostle Chibuzor of OPM to help us. We want to leave this life. We want to go back to normal life. We are tired,” one of the group’s leaders said in the video.
The group reportedly cited the pastor’s previous interventions involving repentant cultists, militants and former inmates as reasons for seeking his assistance.
The Ekpeye Freedom Fighters have been accused of involvement in kidnappings, illegal oil bunkering and cult-related clashes in Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
The reported appeal has attracted reactions from residents of the Ekpeye area, with some calling on the Rivers State Government and security agencies to support any genuine disarmament, rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.
However, as of the time of filing this report, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere had yet to publicly respond to the group’s appeal.
