The Nigerian naira recorded a slight decline against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira closed at ₦1,331.2812 to $1 on Thursday.
The latest official exchange rate represents a rise from the ₦1,329.8568 to the dollar recorded on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The movement means the naira weakened slightly at the official market compared with the previous trading session, as more naira were required to exchange for one US dollar.
Dollar To Naira Black Market Rate
At the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, the naira was quoted at about ₦1,394 per dollar on Thursday.
However, exchange rates offered by commercial banks, Bureau De Change (BDC) operators and other foreign exchange dealers may differ from the reported reference rates.
Such differences are often influenced by transaction margins, market liquidity, demand for dollars and the availability of foreign exchange.
Market participants are expected to continue monitoring foreign exchange inflows, dollar demand and the monetary policies of the CBN for indications of the naira’s performance in the coming days.
