Dangote Refinery Marks First Export of PMS to Cameroon

Dangote Refinery, in partnership with Neptune Oil, has announced the successful export of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from Africa’s largest oil refinery to Cameroon, marking a significant milestone in the region’s energy sector. The 650,000 barrels per day refinery made this announcement in a statement on Wednesday.

This achievement is the result of a strategic collaboration between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil, aimed at strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and Cameroon while addressing the growing energy demands in the region. The move also highlights the potential for intra-African trade in refined petroleum products.

Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, expressed pride in the achievement, describing it as a clear demonstration of the group’s long-term vision for an energy-independent Africa. “This export to Cameroon is a key step toward realizing a future where African resources are refined and traded within the continent, benefiting the people of Africa,” he stated.

Antoine Ndzengue, Director and Owner of Neptune Oil, emphasized the significance of the partnership, noting that Cameroon has now become the first country to import petroleum products directly from Dangote Refinery. “This partnership marks a new chapter for Cameroon, strengthening our energy security and contributing to the country’s economic development. This initial supply, delivered without intermediaries, reflects our commitment to independently and efficiently serving our markets,” Ndzengue said.

This export of PMS to Cameroon comes just months after Dangote Petrol was launched in the Nigerian market on September 15, 2024. According to reports, Dangote Refinery, in collaboration with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and other oil marketers, had agreed on the direct sale of Dangote’s petroleum products. This agreement has already contributed to a minor reduction in PMS prices in the country.

The export to Cameroon underscores Dangote Refinery’s growing role in the African energy market, supporting regional economic integration and energy security.
