Dangote Refinery to Refund Customers Over Fuel Price Reduction — How To Get ₦65/litre Refund

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a customer refund initiative following its recent decision to lower the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

This move ensures that buyers who purchased fuel at higher rates before the price adjustment will be reimbursed. The refund applies to PMS purchased from key distributors—Ardova Plc, Heyden, and MRS—across Nigeria.

The refinery’s decision to reduce its gantry price from ₦890 per litre to ₦825 per litre aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to boost economic stability and ease the financial burden on Nigerians.

₦16 Billion Loss Absorption and Refund Plan

Dangote Refinery has pledged to refund ₦65 per litre for over 200,000 metric tonnes of PMS sold at the previous price, a move that amounts to a ₦16 billion loss which the company is absorbing to ensure fuel affordability.

In an official statement, the refinery confirmed that the refund policy takes effect from February 27, 2025, guaranteeing that its business partners do not suffer losses due to the price revision. More importantly, the company emphasized that this measure is designed to ensure that the price reduction reaches Nigerian consumers without delay.

Warning Against Price Exploitation

Dangote Refinery also issued a stern warning to fuel marketers, urging them to reflect the new price adjustment at the pump and avoid excessive profiteering.

“It is both unpatriotic and unfair to the Nigerian people for marketers to buy fuel at ₦825 per litre and then sell it at ₦945 or more. This kind of overpricing increases hardship on Nigerians and contradicts our commitment to fair pricing,” the company stated.

How Consumers Can Claim Refunds

To protect consumers from being overcharged, Dangote Refinery has set up a refund mechanism. Customers who purchase PMS at inflated prices from Ardova Plc, Heyden, or MRS filling stations can report the discrepancy by submitting their purchase receipts to Dangote Refinery for reimbursement of the excess amount paid.

New Official PMS Prices by Location

The refinery also outlined the approved PMS pump prices for different regions:

MRS Filling Stations

  • Lagos: ₦860 per litre
  • South-West: ₦870 per litre
  • North: ₦880 per litre
  • South-South/South-East: ₦890 per litre

Heyden & Ardova Plc (AP) Filling Stations

  • Lagos: ₦865 per litre
  • South-West: ₦875 per litre
  • North: ₦885 per litre
  • South-South/South-East: ₦895 per litre

With the gantry price now set at ₦825 per litre, Dangote Refinery expects that no Nigerian should pay more than ₦900 per litre for PMS, regardless of their location.

Commitment to Affordable and Sustainable Energy

Reaffirming its dedication to energy affordability, Dangote Refinery emphasized its commitment to producing high-quality, eco-friendly fuel that enhances vehicle performance while promoting environmental sustainability.

“Our commitment aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes self-sufficiency in key industries, including energy. Dangote Refinery remains focused on driving economic growth and ensuring that all Nigerians have access to reliable and affordable fuel,” the statement read.

As part of its broader mission, Dangote Refinery pledged to continue working towards a more prosperous and energy-secure Nigeria, ensuring long-term solutions for the country’s fuel demands.
