Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad and award-winning Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, engaged in a heated exchange on social media on Thursday, August 6, as political tensions continued to build ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The online feud began after Davido shared a post claiming he witnessed what he described as a historic moment involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is also the singer’s uncle.
Davido had revealed that he was present when President Tinubu allegedly telephoned Governor Adeleke to inform him that he had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to lift the freeze placed on the Osun State Government’s bank accounts.
Reacting to the singer’s post, Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), responded with a warning, advising Davido not to complain if his uncle loses the forthcoming governorship election.
The exchange quickly escalated into a personal war of words.
In one of his responses, Ahmad took a swipe at Davido’s music career, referencing the singer’s previous Grammy Award nominations and suggesting that he had repeatedly lost out to South African singer Tyla.
The remark appeared to trigger a sharp response from Davido.
The Afrobeats star fired back by mocking Ahmad’s political ambitions, reminding him of his defeat in the APC House of Representatives primary election, where he reportedly secured only 16 votes.
Davido’s response sparked widespread reactions on social media, with supporters of both men joining the conversation and sharing differing opinions on the exchange.
The public spat comes at a politically sensitive period, with campaigns intensifying ahead of the Osun governorship election scheduled for August 15.
Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking another term in office, while political parties continue to mobilise support in what is expected to be a closely watched contest.
The online confrontation between Davido and Ahmad has since gone viral, adding a celebrity dimension to the political conversations surrounding the forthcoming election in Osun State.
