Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Global, has raised the alarm over alleged irregularities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election held on Saturday.
He claimed that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to announce results from certain areas where the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate was reportedly in the lead.
According to him, results from Gwarinpa, Garki, and Karu had been ready since 9 p.m. on Saturday, but officials allegedly declined to declare them.
“The situation in this country is becoming more alarming than I thought. At the moment, reports reaching us in the Situation Room indicate that Gwarinpa, Garki and Karu results have been ready since nine o’clock, yet they refused to announce them simply because Dr Mo is leading.
“That is why there is chaos in those areas. As we speak, there is heavy mobilisation and teargas has been fired at people.
“I am using this opportunity to call on Nigerians to remain vigilant and come out in this regard. Some are asking why I am not there — I am there myself.
“This is also the time for ADC political leaders to speak out firmly against what we see as election rigging, because the aim is to push out Dr Mo, who is already leading.
“This is a test run for the general election, and we must confront it now. I urge everyone to come out in defence of Dr Mo, because he has won this election.
“That is why they are afraid. They have brought in governors and money, but at this point, we only want a credible election.
“Please, let us mobilise quickly. The results must be announced now,” he said.
