A fire outbreak at a mechanical workshop in the Isheri-Idimu area of Lagos State on Friday affected about 21 exotic vehicles, emergency officials have confirmed.
The incident occurred at about 3:05 a.m. at a workshop located on Oladunni Street, beside Eternal Filling Station, in the Alimosho Local Government Area.
Emergency responders, however, successfully contained the blaze before it could spread to the nearby filling station and other surrounding buildings.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Dolphin Response Team from Igando was immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call.
The team worked alongside personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force to bring the fire under control.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said an initial assessment showed that approximately 21 exotic vehicles were affected by the fire, while a portion of a neighbouring building sustained minor damage.
He confirmed that the fire had been completely extinguished and that damping-down operations had been concluded to prevent a possible resurgence.
No death or injury was recorded in the incident.
Oke-Osanyintolu commended the emergency responders for their prompt intervention, noting that their efforts prevented what could have been a more devastating incident, particularly given the workshop’s proximity to a filling station.
He also urged residents and operators of mechanical workshops to observe safety precautions, especially when handling flammable materials, to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
