Nigerian workers will receive a ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance for six months, plus payment of outstanding arrears, under a new agreement between the Federal Government and organised labour.
The deal, reached with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates, comprises eight resolutions covering transport support, unpaid allowances, minimum wage negotiations and tax relief, among others.
It also sets out implementation timelines and further engagement on workers’ welfare.
Here are the agreements below:
Transport Intervention
The federal government agreed to provide a monthly transport intervention of N70,000 for six months, beginning in November 2026.
Peculiar Allowance Arrears
The government will pay outstanding peculiar allowance arrears in three equal monthly instalments, starting in November 2026.
Health Workers’ Arrears
The government agreed to settle 19 months of outstanding allowances owed to health workers within three months, beginning in December 2026.
Minimum Wage Renegotiations
The government will constitute a negotiating committee and have it begin work immediately. However, the parties still disagree on the effective date for implementing the minimum wage.
Agricultural Officers’ Hazard Allowance
The verification process for hazard allowances owed to agricultural officers is expected to be completed within two weeks.
CONHESS Cost Implications
The parties will update the cost implications of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) within three weeks.
Tax Relief
The NLC National Executive Council (NEC) referred the issue of tax relief for further consideration.
Review Of Implementation
The federal government and organised labour agreed to reconvene in one month to review progress on implementing the agreements.
The next meeting is expected to give both parties an opportunity to assess compliance with the agreed timelines and address any outstanding issues.
