The incident, captured in a video that has since gone viral on the social media platform X, shows the bride halting the ceremony as she repeatedly insisted she would not promise to “obey” her husband.
The clip, shared by a user identified as @dammiedammie35, shows the bride addressing the officiating minister during the exchange of vows. In a firm tone, she made it clear that she was uncomfortable with the wording and requested that the ceremony proceed without the controversial term.
According to her, she had no intention of pledging obedience to anyone, including her partner.
“I’m not saying that word. I’m not saying that word. I’m not obeying anybody. I don’t obey anybody, especially him,” she said during the ceremony.
