Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has publicly declared her support for former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ozokwor made her position known while attending an event organised under the banner of “Celebrities for Peter Obi,” where she joined other entertainers and supporters backing Obi’s political movement.
Speaking at the gathering, the veteran actress expressed concerns over the state of the Nigerian economy and the living conditions of citizens across the country.
Ozokwor described Nigeria as a nation richly endowed with natural and human resources but lamented that the country had not been able to fully harness its potential for the benefit of its people.
According to the actress, Nigeria has been blessed with abundant resources, noting that other countries with considerably fewer natural endowments have been able to achieve improved standards of living for their citizens.
She questioned why Nigeria, despite its vast resources, continues to struggle with poverty, economic hardship and inequality.
The actress also expressed concern over the widening gap between wealthy Nigerians and citizens struggling to afford basic necessities.
She noted that some Nigerians had accumulated enormous wealth capable of sustaining their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, while a large section of the population continues to grapple with economic difficulties.
Ozokwor further suggested that Nigeria’s resources should be managed in a manner that creates opportunities and improves the quality of life for ordinary citizens.
She said:
“I see this country as a spoiled child. There is nothing God did not provide for us. Other nations of the world, if they have one-quarter of what God has given to us, would be better than what they are today.
“Some people in this country have laid up for themselves, for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
“Celebrities here, what we have, we have our faces. We have our integrity. I have mine.”
Her appearance at the Celebrities for Peter Obi event comes as political activities and alignments gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The actress joins a number of Nigerian entertainers and public figures who have publicly expressed political preferences as the country moves towards the next presidential contest.
