Nigerian film star Ray Emodi has revealed that he is stepping away from acting, opening up about disturbing on-set experiences and mounting family concerns that ultimately influenced his decision.
The actor made the announcement in an emotional video shared on his Instagram page, where he spoke frankly about the realities he faced while working in Nigeria’s movie industry, Nollywood. According to him, certain filming conditions exposed him to danger and emotional strain that he could no longer ignore.
Emodi disclosed that one of the most unsettling moments of his career occurred during a production in a location troubled by violent unrest. While cast and crew were attempting to complete the shoot, the sound of gunfire reportedly echoed from nearby areas, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.
He admitted that, for a long time, he never imagined he would consider leaving the profession that brought him fame, but the intensity of those experiences forced him to reassess his priorities and personal safety.
Recalling the tense production, he explained that although chaos was unfolding in neighbouring communities, filming continued regardless, leaving him deeply shaken by the risks involved. The incident, he said, became a turning point that made him question how much he was willing to endure for his craft.
Beyond the physical dangers, the actor noted that the emotional toll of such experiences began to affect his mental well-being. He added that pressure from his family also played a significant role in his decision. Emodi described his family as one that upholds strong values and is mindful of its public reputation, saying he chose to respect their wishes while protecting his own peace of mind.
He acknowledged that walking away from acting was not an easy choice and comes with personal and professional consequences, especially given how passionate he once was about filmmaking. Nevertheless, he emphasized that he would not take actions that could bring discomfort or dishonour to his family name.
