President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that Nigeria cannot tackle insecurity in isolation, stressing that international cooperation and regional partnerships are essential in confronting growing security threats across the country and the African continent.
Tinubu made the remarks on Thursday while speaking at the African CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Nigerian leader spoke while responding to questions regarding global security alliances and the role of major powers such as the United States and France in maintaining international stability.
According to Tinubu, no country — regardless of its strength or influence — can effectively handle modern security challenges alone in an increasingly interconnected world.
“Security challenges will always be there. Those are things you cannot do alone. You can’t operate the world in isolation,” Tinubu said.
“Even Trump, as bold as he is, is in China talking about Taiwan. So, who am I in Nigeria to say I will do it alone?”
The President stressed that Nigeria must continue to strengthen diplomatic and security relationships with neighbouring countries and international allies in order to improve the safety of citizens and protect national interests.
“I must embrace my neighbours. I must pursue pragmatic collaboration partnership, which is very necessary to assist and make progress and enhance the security of life and properties of the people,” he added.
Tinubu’s comments come amid ongoing concerns over rising insecurity in different parts of Nigeria, including terrorism, kidnapping, armed banditry, and communal clashes.
The President has consistently defended his administration’s security policies, arguing that cooperation among African nations and support from global partners remain crucial in addressing transnational crimes and terrorism.
During the forum, Tinubu also discussed broader issues affecting the continent, including economic reforms, regional integration, investment opportunities, and the need for African countries to collaborate more closely to drive development and economic growth.
The African CEO Forum brought together political leaders, investors, business executives, and policymakers from across Africa and other parts of the world to discuss strategies for economic transformation and sustainable development on the continent.
